About Beloved Poetry

Beloved Poetry is a free space devoted to spoken renderings of poetry from mystics, poets, and masters of the heart — Rumi, Hafiz, Neruda, Kabir, and others whose words have carried people through longing, grief, and love for centuries.

The project began quietly, through Amir Khalighi's own practice of rendering poems aloud — Rumi and Hafiz, mostly, at first — as a way of entering more deeply into his own emotional and spiritual life. What started as a private practice slowly reached other listeners, and eventually became this website.

The intention was never simply to recite poetry. The voice, the breath, the silence between lines, the emotional presence of the reader — these are part of what's being offered here, not incidental to it. A poem read aloud, slowly, by someone who means it, is a different thing than a poem read silently on a page.

Beloved Poetry exists so these works can be encountered that way — through listening. Not scrolled past. Not skimmed. Heard.

Amir renders many of the recordings here, and founded the site — and is, alongside the poets gathered here, a poet in his own right. But this library isn't about him. It's about the poems, the poets who wrote them, and whoever needs to hear one today.
